I haven't been an active member on this site, but I will however say this, I've seen some infantile and out right ridiculous comments coming from users in this section. Everything seems to be a political battle with no middle ground. People have the "I'm right you're wrong" type attitude, which at times makes their view points unreliable and not respected. A master debater has an open mind and is willing to listen to the other side of the spectrum. But, if people aren't willing to listen, there is no hope.
I've read some of the responses to your question and in your defense, I think you are a fair and honest person. We all are a little biased at times, which is completely normal. Unlike some users I wouldn't consider you to be a troll or a monger.

You know I have noticed that too and it really bothers me that some people do not know how to think for themselves and you think they could give something positive and constructive at least, but it seems a lot of people here have absolutely no imagination, no common sense (which seems very uncommon anymore), and just are stuck on one viewpoint. I think the majority of people here never think outside the box. Actually I think they crawled into the box closed the top and had themselves shipped off to La La Land. But that is just my personal opinion. Have a wonderful day.

Yes, at times I just have to get away from it because it just looks so hopeless. I think that this is really making our country a lot worse off. But this too they will blame on the other side. If you offer them facts and it gets in the way of what they think is the only thing to do, they can't seem to deal with it.

Unfortunately, some people's entire purpose for getting on here is to disgust people. Everybody picks an answer that only agrees with their position unless they just want to make a derrogatory comment because they can't email them. I don't usually get angry about it. Most people who strongly support their party are pretty close minded. Moderates are the only ones who are more open to other ideas or opinions.

That people with 'closed minds' feel they need to have their opinions validated by writing to this Y Q&A site implies that there remains a small opening in their minds. I hope that reason will enter them via it thanks to the efforts of open-minded people like you.
On the other hand, I enjoy a good rant as much as the next guy.
I tend to give 'thumbs up' to people who disagree with me and make me question my assumptions.
But not to evil liberals and naughty republicans and democrats and catholics and....

Well, there are certainly some closed minds and they reside on 'both sides of the fence', so to speak. When I start getting annoyed at the closed-mindedness of the ones with whom I agree with (sometimes) politically, I know it's time to clean house, wash dishes, pet/feed the cat, water the grass, etc., etc., etc. :-)

True, but more sickening is the constant I'm the victim questions and the accusations of Americans supporting terrorism.

I wouldn't say "disgusted", but close-mindedness in general is not good. You can't learn if you don't have an open mind, and, as this one nonfiction series' motto goes, those who don't see the opposing viewpoint don't fully understand their own.

To answer the first, it's starting to, definitely. I can see why Zilla is bailing.
To the second - herd instinct - they'd rather spout completely inaccurate information, hatred, and fallicies so that they will be accepted than take the time to educate themselves. And stand up for themselves.

yes, they do. I wouldn't care, but the fact that these people vote scares me. i mean, i'm pretty open-minded, and you can convince me of things if you are ACTUALLY right. I'd like the opportunity to convince people of other things that i'm right about. the only thing you can do is try to reason with them, and if they're smart, they'll listen.
