During the summer
- Zilker Hillside Theater summer productions. A couple of bucks to get into the park, spend the rest on food/drink. Have a picnic and watch the *free* show. Sadly, the current season is over, but certainly, one of the best, cheap, times in Austin.
- There are many local and state parks in the Austin and Hill Country, including McKinney Falls, Colorado Bend, Inks Lake, Rimmer's Ranch, etc. Entry is $4. There, you can hike, swim, rock climb, bike, etc. Some also offer free or inexpensive tours.
- Austin Zoo, $7 for adults, $5 for students. It is a small zoo, but what do you expect for less than $10.
- For cheap food, Texadephia, one of the best sandwiches ever made. I get the Texican... yum. For Mexican, Chuy's, it would be hard to stay under the $10 budget, but you can do it. For inexpensive BBQ, Rudy's.

The views from the Oasis and Mount Bonnell are nice. Mount Bonnell is free; the Oasis for two with drinks, meal and dessert is going to cost forty - fifty dollars. I am not sure they take reservations but check and plan ahead the place can be crowded. If you like to dance the have a large area for that too. A walk or guided tour [they start in the Large tower - again check the web site and plan ahead for hours and days open.] around the UT campus is free and can be interesting and even romantic. I personally have been on the Duck tour and found it too expensive and over rated/hyped. If you want to spend money Jeffery's is the dress up cool place to go for dinner and Whole Foods store downtown for casual. Both are or can be pricey but the atmosphere at both places is cool. WF is a good place to people watch too. Mother's Cafe on Duval is also a cool place and go across the street for gellato for the second dessert. I personally find Mayfield Park [very close to Mont Bonnell] and Laguna Gloria both are free and are nice places to walk with nice scenery. The hike and bike trail downtown around the lake should be really pretty at that time of the year.If you walk around the lake downtown plan to be close to the Four Seasons Hotel and the Raddisson right at dusk to see the bats and to avoid any parking hassles.[Congress and First/Robert Matinez street.] Radisson [nice too and next door too] or Four Seasons [movie stars stay here sometimes] with a river view are romantic to me anyway. Renting a canoe on the lake is also romantic to me too. For partiers and music fans sixth street other wise take a pedicab/bicycle taxi ride up and down the street 6-10 dollars -- horse drawn carriage tour after dark approx $40 for an hour or more now. Zilker Park to people watch and/or swim during the day during the week is less crowded. The Botanical Gardens directly across the street from the pool is pretty and also can be romantic - great play for taking pictures, Japanese garden, prehistoric garden, view of skyline, nice large rose and wildflower/butterfly gardens. I believe it is still free during the week. Parking on the weekends is 2-3 dollars and no entrance fee.

There is a ton of rock climbing in the park "zilker" not to menion 14 miles of trail for hiking and biking running along 7 miles of creek which is popular for tubing. If the water is to slow for that join the multitude of people that converge at one of the three hot spots in the green belt which are cambles hole. twin falls (most popular and best swimming hole) and sculpture falls. all are free. You can also sit across the creek on the back side of stubs and catch a free show. i was willey nelson that way, well at least the top half of his head. But you can here him just fine. There are also several Disc Golf courses in and around town all free. There are several senic over looks around town mt. bonelle and 360 bridge to name a couple. Really around Austin you are only limited by your imigination.

Zilker park, Barton Springs. I love both, my bulldog especially likes Barton springs. For food try Freebirds burrito or Dirtys. Window shop around the campus or one of the malls. Austin is pretty expensive, so you sorta have to get clever.
