LOL! That is true but I think what they mean is that the baby, when it is sleeping, is sleeping with no thoughts and worries on his mind. He is resting thoroughly and soundly. Sometimes a baby will sleep so soundly that you can shake them and they are just so deep into sleeping that they don't budge!! I guess that is innocent sleep with no regard to the world around them. It would be nice to be able to sleep without dreaming of things that are on your mind and never have to have a sleepless nights because of being anxious.

I used to wonder th same thing but just look at a baby when they sleep, so peaceful and comfy looking, it means you slept like a baby does when a baby is asleep not when it wakes up... means you were comfy and peaceful.

I always wonder that too. Whenever I hear someone say "I slept like a baby," I say..."What? You were up every two hours to eat?"

They don't say "slept like a newborn". Babies generally sleep for hours without a care in the world. Not fighting to get to sleep, and not struggling to stay asleep.

well never really thought about that. i wouldnt like to sleep like my baby he's 10 mos. and still wakes up a few times in the night.

Because they don't think about all the stress in life and toss and turn unable to fall asleep. They get tired, they sleep...instantly... and then they sleep deep...without worry as to what waking may bring them.

for the same reason people say you eat like a bird. when in fact birds eat a lot for their body size.
