Demeter is "mother-earth" and the goddess of grain and fertility, the pure nourisher of the youth and the green earth, the health-giving cycle of life and death, and preserver of marriage and the sacred law. She is worshipped as the "bringer of seasons."

Dionysus or Dionysos, the Greek god of wine, represents not only the intoxicating power of wine, but also its social and beneficial influences. He is viewed as the promoter of civilization, a lawgiver, and lover of peace — as well as the patron deity of agriculture and the theatre.

They are both associated with earthly fertility.

Detemeter is associated with the change in seasons (note: when Hades, with Zeus' permission, steals Persephone, the earth has no seasons) and with grain. Demeter is also known as Ceres (cereal). Bread was the foundation of the ancient's diet.

Dionysius is associated with wine. Wine is/was integral to religious ceremonies (libations), celebrations, and was a way to extend the nutrient value of grapes.
