“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (Nobel Laureate, mathematician and philosopher)
So unless there is a God, there is nothing to figure out because there is no purpose, no meaning and no point to our existence.
When people invent some purpose for themselves, e.g. "live life to the fullest", what they are really doing is 1) make themselves feel good and 2) keep busy so they won't think about a meaningless existence. Keep busy, keep focused on something else and endlessly pursue happy thoughts.
But if we admit God might exist, then seeking God is what we ought to start with because our purpose would then be a gift from God and God is the giver. I think seeking God is our purpose.

Before assuming there's a purpose, you should ask yourself "is there one"? Because just because a lot of people have said that "this is my purpose" that probably was their way of saying "I've done this because I felt like to". It doesn't mean they were meant to do what they've done, they just chose to do so. To assume you have a purpose means that you don't have a choice somehow, since you've been cut out to do something. I don't believe we were meant to do something other than live. So your only duty is to find the way you want to lead your life and stick to it.

I think you figure it out when you stop caring... and then since you stop caring you don't fulfill your purpose. So when you stop giving a crap about life- just remember that you've figured it all out.

It will be whatever you enjoy doing. Other things will seem dull and boring. It will hold a special meaning to you. It should be something that you will anticipate doing when you wake up in the morning. It will be something you actually miss doing when on vacation.
I hope you find it.
Good Luck!!!

Don't try so hard. More often, your purpose finds you.
