x(x-2)-4(x-3)=2 First multiply into all the parenthesis.
x^2-2x-4x+12=2 Now combine like terms.
x^2-6x+12=2 Now move the numbers to the right side by subtracting 12 from each side.
x^2-6x=-10 Now move the 6 to the right side by dividing each side by 6.
x^2-x=10/6 now you can reduce the right side.
x^2-x=5/3

If there are no solvable numbers inside a set of parentheses like (2-3) or (4x6)Always start by multiplying whatever is outside the parenthesis with whatever is inside the parenthesis (this is called distributing)

x(x-2)-4(x-3)=2

when distributing, start by multiplying the x on the left of this equation by the x and the -2 within the parentheses

so you get
x[2]- 2x- 4(x-3)=2

then on the right side of the equation multiple the 4 by the x and -3 on the inside of the parenthesis

so you get
x[2]- 2x -4x-12= 2

next, add 12 to each side to get rid of the -12 on the left

so you get

x[2]-2x-4x= 14

Next, combine the like variables, in this case meaning the -2x and the -4x

-2x-4x= -6x

so you get
x[2]- 6x=14

note: the [2] means squared

this is as far in the equation as you can go.

x ² - 2 x - 4 x + 12 = 2
x ² - 6 x + 10 = 0
x = [ 6 ±√(- 4) ] / 2
x = [ 6 ± 2 i ] / 2
x = 3 ± i

x^2-2x-4x+12=2
x^2-6x+12=2
x^2-6x+10=0
From there you will use the quadratic formula to solve for x
