Ok, this is the only time you all will listen to my prattle, so I must make this a question. It is just now beginning the 2nd rainstorm of the season. All is grey
outside from the ground to the sky.
We will have about 1 storm per week
until next Mar/April. Use your brains.
What's the best use of my time during
this winter? No crafts, I don't have the
patience.

Use the time to learn something. There are lots of free resources on the internet and in the library (if you can get out between rainstorms). For instance, since you obviously have a computer, maybe you have Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. You can learn the basics of using these programs for free by going to www.gcflearnfree.org or www.inpics.net. Some sites, like GCF, have courses where you can earn certificates. If you'd rather learn something else, type "free online tutorials" into your web browser and see what else comes up.

I think if I were faced with that long of a winter season I'd think of several things to occupy my time.

1) If you're a cook, start canning and putting up fruits and vegetables for the winter.

2) Join Pogo games, http://www.pogo.com. It's free but they also have a paid version.

3) Continue here on Yahoo! Answers. It's a great place to help people and if you're a Senior...you have the knowledge!

4) Check on-line for volunteer opportunities in your location, there are many. You can also volunteer at your hospital, food pantry or senior center.

5) If you know anyone who loves to play cards...anything from bridge to poker, set up a revolving card night! One night at your place then everyone takes their turn and back to you again.

6) Join a Bowling League and have some fun.

7) Join the "Y" if you have one nearby. You can swim all winter and do some aerobics while you're at it!

Good luck and have a great winter!

I can't do crafts either. I am way too clumsy. My fingers usually get way too much super glue on them.

Get yourself a large oil lamp. Purchase some really good books. James Patterson, Jonathan Kellerman, Patricia Cornwell, Sandra Brown. Get some warm fuzzy slippers, preferably the ones with a cute little bunny face or maybe Garfield. Keep yourself warm but not too warm. Too much heat will make you ill. Watch your blood pressure. Chop wood for emergencies. Stock up on staples.

For some reason, I am feeling a little chilly. Mountain Gal, please take care of your health. You are well respected here.

Well dog gone it, lol you don't like craft stuff and that is what I was going to say, lol. Oh well, then why don't you make some cookies and candy and maybe even some cakes, put them in the freezer and have them ready for Christmas gifts. That is what I do for gifts at Christmas since I don't have the money to buy gifts. Hey it is not crafts, lol.

Go to Yahoo Pool and enter " Over the Hills " room. You may have to go through the back door and get in cause it's usually full and yahoo won't let you enter. Anyway, this room is mostly older more mature people that you can get to know and enjoy playing pool and chatting with. Once you get the hang of it you may even want to join their league. Tournaments can be really fun. You can really meet some interesting people. I think the back door website is www.amishdonkey.com

If you can get out and visit retirement centers that would be wonderful. If you can't get out, find out from organizations in your area about people who live alone. Give them a call, send them cards or maybe visit or meet for lunch when weather permits. When you do things for others time goes by so quickly and you feel better about yourself.

You could also take continuing education classes on something that interests you. I fell so much better when I'm learning something new.

Anyone who is able, has the resources, should move south. Down here we look forward to winter. I have always believed that any older person is wasting half their life by living in the north during the winter.

I'm in Fl too....but I don't surf !!!! Summers are MISERABLE here !!! LOVE this "Fall" weather today!!! It snowed here several years ago on Christmas. That was a treat. Our winters are cold too..a different kind of cold. I'd rather be home in Tn. where you get the seasonal weather like it's supposed to be. Of course I'm in N. Fl...so that's kinda like Ga. I LOVE the change of seasons....and snow...Some of you "snowbirds" should change places with me. lol

Read some online books or printed books and share your opinions (reviews) with others. Make new friends. Explore the spiritual side of you.

Best wishes.
