So long as that it was performed legally, New York will recognize it. Thus, you could marry in Massachusetts and live in New York if you wanted to =] (Seems like that's what I'd to if the current state of things don't change, and to be honest, I love New York City.) I didn't know that, until, oh... 5 minutes ago.

My question is: Why don't they just full out allow it if they recognize international same-sex marriage?

It is a cop out. They recognize it as a "marriage" but the rights still aren't there. I live about 45 mins north of the City. I'm still waiting for y state to fully legalize it. I want to marry my fiance in the church I grew up in. My pastor has no problem with it just the f@#$ing state.

Are you sure that this is true? I live in NY and from what I heard it wasn't legal in NY. I thought if you get married in Massachusetts its only legal in states that allow same-sex marriage, which is only Massachusetts. Some states allow civil unions but that's different. Anyway, I guess I'll have to do the research...but if you have a link or can tell us how you found this out...that would be cool. They should just legalize same-sex marriage in the US and get it over it. It's bound to happen eventually so they need to speed it up.

I knew about this. I think it is good that they at least do that. They don't fully recognize it because it is highly discouraged by the Federal Government and because New York is already considered too liberal. I am sure there are many sensitive issues that come into play here.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that loophole was closed earlier this year. Massachusetts gay marriages up until the loophole closing were recognized; those after are not.

YaY, this world should have more states like NY, my beloved homestate. And to answer your question, I think its because many people discriminate homosexuality. So NY would be in a pinch if many people went against it if they allowed it full out.

"Full faith and credit shall be given in each state to the public acts, records, and judicial proceedings of every other state. And the Congress may by general laws prescribe the manner in which such acts, records, and proceedings shall be proved, and the effect thereof."

I think a better solution than just allowing it would be to make gay marriage illegal and make it clear that gay marriages wont be recognized in this country.
