There are no good reasons to ban books. If you committ a murder just because you read a book about it then there is something wrong with you not the book.
Does reading a cookbook make you a great chef? There is plenty of violence and murder in many 'acceptable' books. You can be repulsed by a book and share that revulsion with others but thats still not a reason to ban it.
In any case it doesn't work. Most times once you ban a book interest goes up. Its better to just expose the objectionable subject matter and discuss it openly.

I don't approve of censorship, because it is often done for reasons that are downright ludicrous. Neither 'To Kill A Mockingbird' nor 'The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn' is racist, but that is usually the reason given for banning them.
There are books I do not approve of, which promote views and ideas that I find distasteful or even repulsive. But once you begin censoring any ideas, it becomes too easy to censor all.

I'm not sure I agree that book banning is ever right, but I can understand the reasoning which resulted in the banning of books on bomb making and child pornography.

Hitman by Rex Farell
Because it describes step by step how to commit a contract killing. It was banned after a few people followed the advice. Just a bad idea for a book. (i've read it, it's pretty sick)

THE 120 DAYS OF SODOM by The Marque de Sade
This book was banned and for very good misanthropic reasons.

A lot of schools have banned Huckleberry Finn because of it's racist connotations and the use of the N word.
