Probably -

Gaius Cilnius Maecenas (70 – 8 BC) was a confidant and political advisor to Octavian (who was to become the first Emperor of Rome as Caesar Augustus) as well as an important patron for the new generation of 'Augustan' poets. His name has become a byword for a wealthy patron of the arts.

In theory your Gaius should be in the same league as Pythagoras.

Could be Gaius Caesar Augustus Germanicus,
but he was a nut job, killed after only 4 years of rule, so the Pythagoras comparison is weak. Not really a contributor to the greater good of mankind.

Small chance your teacher meant Galen who was to medicine what Pythagoras was to math.
