from a briggs ridding lawn mower vertical shaft in laymanns term a i would like a PDF..but anything would help..

Most lawn tractors don't have clutches. They use a belt with a tensioning pully. When you let your foot off the brake/clutch pedal the belt tightens and the tractor moves. Some do have electric clutches that drive the mower deck. It is bolted to the crankshaft. From underneath the tractor you would remove the bolt from the end of the crankshaft and slide the clutch assembly off the shaft. It may be a bit stuck on, but it does slide off. Be carefull with this unit as it costs $300 or so. After all of that what is the problem that you think is the clutch? We would be more than willing to help if we had a bit more information.

As stated - what kind of clutch? Some model numbers would be needed, as well as the brand of it.The chassis numbers are usually located near the rear of the tractor, under the seat, in front of the seat or on the back near the hitch area. Im assuming youre refering to the mower clutch, as mentioned, lawntractors just use a 'tension ' setup, as a drive clutch. Check the 'parts search ' section for your tractor at :
