On the same cable, yes. On the same channel, no. IDE cables can have 1 or 2 connections for devices. There are two types of cables; high speed and regular. Regular IDE cables all have 2 or 3 black identical connectors. High speed cables have twice as many wires and cable ends of different colors. The doubled conductors are obvious when placed side by side with a standard cable. On the colors, a high speed cable usually has a gray and 2 black connectors.and instead of the master/slave jumper settings, uses CS, cable select settings on the IDE drives. When connecting a 2nd device, all you need do is determine the settings, one as master and the other as slave (or both as CS). It does not matter which is which in your case whether the drive or CDROM is master or slave if you are using that mode, though, the boot drive should be master or device 1. I forget which is which on the CS, gray or black as device 1 and the other as device 2. One last thing, even if you have a cable set up for cable select, it will still work with master/slave as far as I know.

Yes. It would be better if the hard drive is "Master". Be sure to set the proper hard drive boot sequence in the BIOS.

you can just as long as you have the Hard drive in master mode and the DVD drive as the slave

on the 20G HD set the jumper on the HD to master & on the 250 HD set jumper to slave or cable select
Jumper is the little plastic piece in the pins that is moveable on back of HD, on the HD is a label showing master/slave/cable select
you do this along with setting in BIOS and make sure that they are in right [position's on the cable/ribbion in computer also. look at it, it will say master-slave.
