There is a group of fruitflies that will not leave my life. They keep reappearing even though I thought I found all the standing water. I don't have fruit lying around either. What's the deal & how do I rid myself of them?

Coachbaglady & mauidelite are probably right. I was leaning toward standing water in my pipes being the culprit. I'm going to try that saran wrap & boiling water thing.

Some suggestions I found through searching on the Internet is to cover your sink drains with plastic wrap so that flies cannot go through the drains; fruit flies can breed in drains where organic material can potentially be. But before you do this, flush your drains with boiling water and cleaning solution. Leave the drains covered overnight to hopefully stop the breeding. Assuming you cleaned everywhere/everything, keep in mind that fruit flies also are attracted to moisture so be sure to keep all your countertops and areas clean and dry! Good luck!

If you have any potted plants, that's where they are breeding. Fruit Flies only live about 2 days, so they're breeding somewhere in the house. Open, damp dirt and potting soils are ideal places for them - it happens all the time. It's hard to get rid of them in the plants because so many house plants are so sensitive, but sometimes putting the plants outside for a couple of days will do it because the flies will move on with the wind and not re-breed in the pots.

They may be drain flies instead. Pour PineSol down each drain, at least a half cup, put in drain stopper and leave house for a few hours. Come back and scrub down below the rim...you can't get far, I know. That usually does it. Oh yes, rinse well. There's also a toilet bowl cleaner called Kaboom.......basically same stuff as OxyClean....made by same people. Pour into drain, leave stopper off as it foams up like a volcano..slow volcano. Let sit 20 minutes.

Finally, do you have houseplants? The bugs could be coming from the soil. Pour some soapy water through the soil, let sit about 10 minutes and then rinse through.

Fruit flies do not live very long. Be sure there isn't any place where they can breed. Get rid of garbage, fruit or vegetables laying around - anything else you can think of where they might be. What you can't get rid of cover well or put in the refrig. That should soon get rid of them.

I feel your pain- I had them once in the kitchen, and tried everything. Since they seemed to be coming from our sink area, I finally had a plumber come out. Apparently, they were coming from gunk in the sink trap. He thoroughly cleaned and snaked the sink piping, and finally, they were gone!
