We live in the wealthiest nation in the world and shouldn't have homeless... ever. That being said, the politics of that are best left for an anwer to that type of question. When I see a homeless man, woman or woman with children it always brings tears to my eyes. There is so much pain there to cause their homelessness in the first place. If the person has children with them, I always ask if I can bring them food. I have many times actually along with the number of the local food pantry and homeless shelter or homeless woman's shelter. It's not enough to say you care, but show you care if possible. I don't ever give money... except as a donation to the non-profit homeless shelters. The answer has to start with one person caring enough to make a difference.

Sad... I always ask myself what occurred in their life to lead them to that situation of being homeless. What choices did they make? How was their childhood like? What emotional/ mental problem do they have? Many individuals who are homeless also have untreated mental conditions such as scitzophrenia, bipolar and PTSD. A lot of people dont know this however back in the 70's the government shut down a lot of mental health institutions who were helping a lot of mentally ill people. Once they were gone, prison and the streets became their new home. We still have that same problem today. Now dont get me wrong, there are a portion of people who consciously choose to be homeless because they dont want to work. For those people, I have little sympathy for. With that said the majority of homeless do not fit in that category and if anyone thinks I'm wrong about that, they are just ignorant about the issues. One of the main reasons why we have homelessness in our society is because 99 percent of the wealth in this country is controlled by 1 percent. Until that changes, our mental health system or any other system will not improve and homelessness will be just one consequense. To answer you question: VERY SAD.
THere are a lot of veterans of past wars that are homeless also. They go through hell and become tramatized in war and when they get back home, the government turns their back on them. Its happening today also with our current Iraq war veterans. Were spending billions of dollars to fight the war and very little to help the ones who are returning. Sad Sad Sad. Their being used up and thrown away.

I don't feel bad. There are places they can go to if they are truly homeless. It's really sad when you see them pull into a parking lot and walk to the corner and ask for money and then get back into their car and drive to their homes.
And why is it when someone tries to give them food and they ask for money instead. Haven't you seen the news where they track the homeless on the corner begging for money and catch them living in a really nice home. The money they make is tax free. Why can't they find a job. And how do the find the perfect card board and black marker.

I feel sad. How can a country with so much affluence not be able to house its people! Many of the homeless that I see are old and should be living in comfortable retirement homes with dignity and honour to see out their last days. Why are they not??????

I wonder what set of circumstances put them there. I hope that it is a short stay for them and that if illness is involved that they get the help they need- although our medical system for the indigent is horrible.
If I lost my job and couldn't get another right away, it would be me also.
