I visited the US a few months ago, and don't feel there was a huge amount of freedom at all. I'm 17 and male, and dress scene I guess, I wear tight jeans, etc, and the amount of stares I go from people was rediculous. I even got a few comments in the street. I'm from Australia and I never get stared at here, nor have I in the European countries I've visited. I felt uncomfortable in the US with the amount of stares I got. Maybe I just had a bad experience, but the people seem very judgemental.

I'm sorry you had this experience. It could have had something to do with where you visited. Most of the people I know couldnt care less what anyone is wearing. Did you ever think they may have been admiring you? It could also have been that your clothes were a little different from the ones they're used to. I would like to ask what this has to do with our freedoms. If you're judging an entire country by what you experienced in one place, you might want to give us another try. Our family was in London recently and got a lot of stares because we did look a lot different from most of the other people. Judging goes on everywhere. It's part of human nature.

That really is a stretch questioning the freedoms of America based on being stared at.
Were you forced to change clothing? Were you imprisoned for what you wore? Were you asked to defend your clothing?
As you probably noticed yourself, in America you are pretty much free to wear whatever you like - sure there are public decency laws - but seriously, your self-consciousness may not be an indication of lack-of-freedom.

Skin-tight pants on a man aren't common here, you probably saw most younger men wearing baggy jeans or regular cut pants. You probably just stood out, that's all. We also tend to observe others more than Europeans and Australians, and comment on observations, but nothing rude is meant by it.

America is weird okay In austrailia most of you guys are the same religion and stuff like that. In america you just pretty much stay to yourself and wearing tight jeans usually means you're gay. In america you will always offend someone. You keep your mouth shut and stay to yourself okay. Being gay in america is very touchy okay. I'm not saying you are. It not a big deal with me about that at all. America is a very dangerous country.

Really? Wow. What part of America were you in? I mean tight jeans on males isn't uncommon here, and I've never seen anybody giving "stylish" boys the evil eye.

Are you trying to say that you had something special in those jeans that it was worth wearing those skin tight jeans? People probably thought you looked ridiculous, if they were that skin tight.

We tout ourselves as being the most free, etc., but between the number of police and amount of police activity, the number of narrow-minded people (including those in power at local, state and national levels) and the number of intrusions into one's personal life, it seems highly doubtful anymore.
I buddy of mine is British African who has lived and worked all over the world; the US seems like a biggest police state he's ever seen.
