Ok, so maybe i shouldn't have said greatest, I'll try and redeem myself:

Which war has had the largest impact on the world?

It is hard to know what you mean by the greatest. The most killed would be WWI I think, though the American Civil war was pretty close. The most countries involved would be WWII. The most exciting, probably the second war between Rome and Carthage.

The greatest war for the U.S. would be the American Civil War.
The greatest war in European history would be WW1.
The greatest war in world history would be WW2.
WW2 (1939-1945) Involved more countries, people and cost more money than any other war in history.

All wars pale in comparison the second world war in terms of casualties and number of nations involved.

WWII . ..... the beginning of the atomic age not to mention how many people lost their lives and how many countries were destroyed. A moment in history I hope never repeats or the so call WW III to be.

the most terrible war in human history was WW II. If that is your idea of greatest, that's it.
