From the use of their system! Let's see?...First, we pay for the telephone service that gives us our number. Then, we pay extra for internet service, that enables us to surf the web & pick & choose the sites we want to use. If we use a yahoo site, then we agree to the user terms & this NOW gives yahoo free reign to bombard us with all their advertisements & cross reference programs. It ALSO drops a "cookie" on your ISP ADDRESS that appears to fill your email with TONS of unwanted SPAM. Basically, Yahoo is PROFILING it's users in order to try & make more money & violating good business practices & protocol in an effort to pad it's own bank account or possibly get some form of "payola" from it's advertisers/sponsors! Kind of like the old pyramid scheme, which supposedly was outlawed many years ago, but seems to be alive & well on the world wide web! I hope the government shuts down the entire system some day soon, because I for one, am getting sick of having to deal with all of the crap that is being forced onto my screen & across my eyes! It only makes me WANT to NOT BUY THE ITEMS THAT ARE POPPING UP ON THIS SITE!!! I am locked into using yahoo for internet access & telephone service in my area, but that will change soon & I'll find a new avenue that respects it's customers & does not link them with collection agencies & marketing firms! They have even allowed my unlisted phone number to be posted on their pages for a price to those who want to pay for their services. Reunion sites & Geneaology listings also are misused in order to link people with one another in an effect to sell this info to anyone willing to pay for it! I wish that I had NEVER put my real name on the original application for my FREE email address from Yahoo.com! "Beware of strangers bearing gifts & nothing in life is free", are just two of the sayings that my Mother used to say when someone offered her something for FREE! Nothing like having a truly CAPTIVE audience, eh? I wonder if Bill Gates trained Timothy Leary or if it was the other way around!

I've just woken up, but getting off the blog site, you can see news, recipes, celeb news, almost anything you want. And they are not giving out that space for free. And you must have a Yahoo account to blog on Yahoo, as the other lady said..
How about our personal info, for companies wanting to market products. The larger the network members, the best price they get paid.
Also, there may be a way, they are using statistics to see who is interested in products. Where you spen most of your time. Not to mention pop-ups and banners. Other wise, I'm a bit lost.

I presume so. Advertisement is one. But what do you think out internet fees go to. Not too many web sites are for free, especially when we use the search engines. Most are here to make $$. But, I don't have a problem with it, as it isn't like a utility that I have to have.

On-screen ads, of course. Just like radio & TV. So what?
Yes, I know, we end up paying more for goods and services, because the consumer ends up paying for the ads through higher prices! Such is life.

Ah, you must be referring to all of the ads and popups, the flashes, etc.
Well, I will merely say that it takes money to do anything; therefore, Yahoo! generates money through advertising in one form or another...

They make money off of us if we buy any of the products that are advertised.

It's a business. So what if they make money. They aren't here just to be nice for us.
