I was always brought up to share what I have with the less fortunate. My question is since the rich man went to hell because he didnt share his wealth and Lazarus went to heaven because he lived in poverty, how does that reflect in today's society ? I donate to charities and I give whatever change to panhandlers. They would approach me asking for either bus fare or money for food for their kids and one person went to my house and said she has a sick kid and asking exactly $8.65, promised me to pay me back but I knew I'll never see her again. I never hesitate to give but the same time I know (i've seen them) that they don't always use the money for what they ask for (they buy booze mostly). Its illegal now to buy/give food to them, I will get fined for it. Now I'm starting to think that the our mayor is right, they always have a choice but they choose to live in the street because people keep giving them money. Would you continue to keep giving?

Not directly. I'd donate to halfway houses and shelters that help and encourage them to get back on their feet and support themselves instead of risking losing my money to supporting a bad habit and encouraging dependence on begging.

I used to give to everyone too. Then people tried to take advantage of how giving I was or they didn't appreciate it at all. Give to something like a charities only that way you know it is going to the right place. The truth is most people aren't good any more and you have to gaurd yourself sometimes I gave even when I couldn't afford it and found out they had more money than me, just keep in mind you need to take care of you first.

Illegal to give them food? That's a joke right?

Lazarus had faith in God. The rich man had faith in his riches.
Lazarus asked God to save him. The rich man did not.

The death, resurrection, and blood shed of Jesus is the only work that can get you to heaven.

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:

Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Jhn 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Pray for God to save you. He will. He wants to. Right now.

Heavenly Father,
I am a sinner, unable to save myself. I believe Jesus died for me and was raised from the dead. Please save.me now.
In Jesus name, Amen.

Keep on giving, but give to charitable organizations you believe in.
