plastic plants, all plants will require some kind of light to survive, the most hardy of all aquarium plants is the Java Fern, these will survive if they only get 4 hours of light a day and this can be daylight or an aquarium light.

Your best bet is special plastic ones. If you plan to breed them, forget the plants. The male makes a bubble nest to incubate the eggs and the plants will get in his way. Take the female OUT of the tank after they have mated. The male will kill her. The garage is a bad deal also. The water temp. has to be maintained at 80 degrees at all times. If you feel you have to darken the tank(not necessary) cover it with black plastic like a trash bag.

check at petsmart. they have a lot of live plants so you can read the descriptions or ask there and they can tell you. be sure not to buy a plant with a snail on it, i did, and i quickly had 60 snails in my tank! lol. but you can also get a fake plant or something like that if there are none that can survive without light. but you should give your fish some light or else it may hurt them although they may produce faster.

Plastic plants. All live plants need reasonable lighting, without it, they would starve and die (because they couldn't photosynthesize.)

EDIT: In largeish tanks, floating plants are very helpful for the male Betta, they will give him something to structure his bubblenest around. Most pet stores should have cheap, plastic, floating plants.

The Bettas don't need the plants to reproduce. Water lettuce floats on top, but has moderate light requirement, so you would need aquarium lights at least.

All aquatic plants need light. Try using a light hood,so you can control the lenght of time you need for your tank.

i in my view does no longer do stay flowers until you get greater matured. they're including an entire new point of difficulty (plus oftentimes introduce snails or parasites). i do no longer do them in any respect. They require countless maintenance to seem stable, and that i'm a fish-keeper, no longer a gardener! some fish choose stay flowers, Bettas could desire to no longer care much less. All they use them for is to sleep in the back of. do no longer cram your tank 0.5-packed with flowers. it's going to make cleansing it a nightmare! some silk flowers will make your Betta greater advantageous than chuffed. in case you like the seem of a heavily planted tank, attempt applying a static hang historic past. they have them at Petsmart. they're worry-free to apply and somewhat seem notably advantageous (plenty greater appropriate than the old form plastic form). flowers have no longer something to do with cycling.
