Do you really think Iran would use Nuclear weapons against Israel?

They have stated they want Israel gone. But Israel has nuclear weapons and better delivery systems as well as a vast superiority in conventional forces. It would be suicide if Iran attacked first. No country or empire in the history of the world has ever actually engaged in actions that would ensure all of its population would die in a nuclear holocaust. Assured destruction kept the Americans and the Soviets peaceful except for small proxy wars(Vietnam & Afghanistan) any Iranian leader who successfully put the hurt on Israel would instantly become a legend and hero in the eyes of the Iranian population and surrounding Arab world. But only if there were Iranians around to create and maintain legends. Israel's response would wipe Iran and their population off the map . There would be no one to celebrate or declare victory on the Israelis. Do you think these threats are for real or are they just posturing to placate their local populations because they really can't do anything.

First of all...we used the atomic bomb to end World War II. Otherwise, the war would have dragged on for at least another year or two and cost the lives of millions more than were already lost. It was nothing done out of arrogance and something we took no pride in doing.

During the Cold War...the Soviets knew that launching the bird would result in MAD, but they were reserved enough to realize that they didn't want the annihilation of each other.

This is different...the Islamists believe that if they kill others and die in the process that they are heroes and will be rewarded in heaven. They want to die and are willing to kill as many people as they have to to achieve this. Ahmandinejad has made very clear he wants to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. Iran is using plutonium that can be used for weapons. Right now they don't have the means to create nuclear weapons, but that day is coming. He would try to destroy Israel.

First of all, lets define threat.

5 or 6 countries can attack Israel and have a chance of winning, and Iran isn't one of them. Israel uses tactical nuclear missiles and they do not have city destroying ability (Israel also has access to city destroying weapons, but doesn't use them). The amount of refining it takes, in order to get uranium or plutonium to the purity, and the risk involved in engineering implosion weapons means iran is not a viable nuclear threat to any nation, even if they use weapons that technically are nuclear explosions. m80's can be used to make a pipe bomb, but an m80 is not a pipe bomb by itself.

you are correct about Israel's response. They will flatten a country (lebanon) over a few conventional explosions and some kidnappings. An iranian weapon with nuclear capabilities, even if only destroying a few buildings or blocks, would spell the end of Iran. I watched the Iranian president speak in NY. He didn't seem nearly that stupid or crazy. More than likely, he will attempt to bring nuclear power to his cities and provide an internal economy, while the US will attempt to classify that as an act of war, and while mobilizing troops into the area, the two sides will conflict, and it will become another Afghanistan.

I think you are mistaking the motivations of a theocratic nation with a secular one.

The holy men in charge in Iran are tempermentally disposed to consider this world unimportant compared to paradise awaiting in the next. I believe some of them would be willing to give up life in this world to be the ones who "purged the evil" from the Holy Land.

The secular leaders , whether Bush, Musharaff or Putin, of all the nuclear powers in the world are singularly only interested in money, economics and personal gain for their cronies.

They will not destroy a world or their own country they can still profit from.

We have to question the motives of any country seeking nuclear weapons.

Canada, Italy or Germany could create nuclear weapons (really powerful adn effective ones, not just simple ones) within a single year if they chose to.

But they do not.
Why?
Because they have zero inclination to EVER use them.

If Iran or any other nation thinks that have one or few weapons will frighten the Superpowers from ever bombing them, they ae sadly delusional.

If America did not back down from an angry USSR with their 20 000 nuclear weapons, what makes iran think that a single nuclear weapon will make America pause?

Firstly there aint no proof iran has nuclear weapons.Israel are known to have the but they dont have B missiles like Iran and recent technological advancement in iran and their latest missiles have vast ranges (3000 miles+).Even if israel succesfully deliver its nuke via jet or something, they would have to drop it at the edge of iran where the population and military wont be affected much cause tehran not located at the border or the nearer edge towards israel.Unlike iran which is pretty big, israel is small so if iran nukes them they are literally "wiped out". But their Balistic missles are good enough to take our Israels main bases out even b4 their military actually fights and their Army can just move in and counquer it but i dont think either nation would use nukes but israel might cause they would die if they dont.
PLSU THEY DIDNT WANT TO ELIMINATE ISRAEL BUT RATHER SAID THE NATION SHOULD BE CALLED PALESTINE WHICH IS ITS RIGHTFUL NAME NOT ISRAEL

To all the people saying the USA should stay out of it, I really do feel had they not been "in it" Nuclears would of been dropped by now and WE WOULD ALL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES.

Yes, they already believe that suicide bombing is OK, they send their men, women, and children in to kill as many as they can.
Why would you believe that they would not risk self annihilation to kill the entire Jewish nation?
Remember Israel is only 7miles wide and approx. 20 or so miles long. ( I think )

Please understand it may not be the general populous that want to kill Jews, but the individuals that do want to kill, seem to hold power over the ones that don't.

I have to believe that, because if it is not true then why don't the ones that don't believe in Jihad stand up and fight against the ones that do or at least speak out against them and report their whereabouts to the U.N. or U.S. or who ever is in charge of stopping the fighting, where ever they are?
