I AM white, and Proud of it, and that does NOT mean I think I am better than anyone else. It means that I am PROUD of who I am. NO ONE, no matter what color, should be PROUD of their race, without idiots calling them racism. In MY book, that makes THEM racist.

You are right. The problem is that those who want what they regardless of who gets hurt. They twist the language, society, culture, and law to suit themselves. They will cheat, lie, steal, or commit any crime including some that are hard for me to imagine. These people are going to steal or destroy America unless the middle class make the hired help (politicians) toe the line.

The complication comes from one particular racist, Ben Klassen. Mr. Klassen set up an organization, the World Church of the Creator, which was predicated on the position that white peeople should do what is needed to preserve their whiteness, and be proud of their whiteness....and as a corollary, should stomp on anyone who disrupts the purity of the white race.
Ooops. You see the problem, right?
Think of it this way. I am of Irish descent. I am justifiably proud of my celtic heritage, but I frankly despise the Brits, who are a muddled amalgam of people who have neither pride of heritage nor hope of prideworthy descendants. The very idea that "us" "white folks" should stick together is cow poop inasmuch as white folks have been killing each other far longer than they have been aware of other folks who might be worth slaughtering.
Pan-whitism has no raison d'etre beyond standing as a colorable excuse for racism. I do not give a fig for the white race, because in my view, there is no such thing (just as there is no black race, no yellow race, no red race).

As we move towards an increasingly interconnected society, our interactions with people from within India & with those of different cultures across the world is rising. While buzzwords such as global village & knowledge society are constantly used in advertising, we are hardly open to a respectful acceptance of our differences. Alarmingly there is a rise in xenophobic attitudes and favoritism towards certain sections of society, based either on race, skin color or caste. There are quite a few shameful instances where Indians have exhibited racism. Racial slurs are used quite openly towards people of different regions & religions. When we are on the receiving end, we denounce racism and rightfully so, but, aren't we guilty of a double standard when there is manifest racism in our own country? India has long been a melting pot of cultures, languages, ethnicities and that has been her proudest tradition. How do we transcend above petty racism to embrace all humanity as one with ourselves?

One should always be proud of his race, religion etc. That doesn't mean he is better than anyone else. Racism is not pride in one's own race but how he views and treats those of other races.
The fact that there are good and bad in all races doesn't make it into the brains of bigots.

Since the term race often simply means nothing more than skin color I am not sure what it is that you would be proud of. It seems appropriate to be proud of your heritage, but most of us share part of our heritage with people of many different degrees of skin pigmentation. I have an ancestor who was one of the founders of Rhode Island and I am proud of it, but he has almost 50 thousand decedents, probably with a variety of skin colors who are also proud.

No, it's not racism to be proud of a certain race. Racism is when a certain race feels their superior to others and slander people of other races.

Racist whites are the only people who claim to be proud of their race. When blacks say "black power", it is only American blacks they're refering to, so its really more a cultural pride than racial.
After the nazis, all racism is bad. Cultural pride is still acceptable. So instead of saying white power, be a proud italian, pole, greek, etc.
