Apply at the fast food chains in your area. YOu can simply walk-in and ask for an application.

Most places require that you be 18 to waitress. But you can start as a hostess or cashier for now. Usually restaurants like to promote People they know will work hard rather than hire someone new.

Just look in your local classifieds or keep an eye out around town for help wanted signs. It always helps if you know someone who already works at the place who can give you a good reference.

Put in your application and be honest about available hours and experience. If you get an interview, dress appropriately and be friendly...waitresses HAVE to be friendly to customers! Once you get the cashier/hostess job, show your work ethic. Volunteer to work for people who request a day off. Take extra hours. NEVER just stand around. Show that you can work without a manager giving you orders on every little thing.

Most importantly, dont get discouraged if you dont get a lot of calls. A lot of places prefer experience. But remember that eventually you will find somewhere that doesn't require it and is willing to train you.

Good luck and happy hunting!

Starting is probably a Denny's or something similar .
You will have a ton of customers and they should teach you the basics .
Once you have some experience , apply at better restaurants but look for ones patronized by adults .
( students are poor and mostly bad tippers ) .

If you can keep an attitude , like the people coming in are family or friends and you want them to be happy with their meals , your tips will generally be larger .
Treat them like a McDs counter order , and the tips will suck .

It is hard work but is the most flexible for students ,
Especially if you plan to go to college .

Good Luck

Many businesses have trouble hiring teenagers because of the following restrictions: curfew rules, education (grades drop), lack of reliable transportation, friends 'hang out' where you work, poor attendance, etc.

Maybe you can take online job skills tests to see what types of jobs are good for you. Your high school guidance counselor should have information on teenage employment.

Maybe you and your parents can sign up at a local workforce company or a temporary employment agency.

If you want to waitress but worry about being under 18 for alcohol service, try working at Pizza Hut. The only alcohol they serve is beer and another waitress can take it to your tables for you. It's a smaller menu, less things to remember and a great place to get your feet wet in waitressing.

I think it's illegal to wait tables at an establishment that serves alcohol until after you've turned 18, so you might want to look into starting out as a hostess in an establishment first to get your foot in the door.
