my name's Sarah, and there are TOO many sarah's out there... and i didn't want to be "sadie" or "sally". so, i was thinking "Scout" from To Kill a Mockingbird. Do you think it would stick as a nickname? or is it dumb?

I think it is a great name. Bruce Willis and Demi Moore have a daughter named Scout. It you really like it, go for it. Start by asking your family and friends to use it. I have been called by a nickname all my life. In fact, I didn't know until I started school what my real name was. Now, I used the nickname is informal situation and the real name in business situations. No, it doesn't mean you have a dual personality. It is just more natural for me. I think you have made a great choice. Congratulations. Let me be the first to call you Scout. Good luck with your name. You couldn't have honored a better novel with your choice. Pax - C

If you like it-you need to refer to yourself as Scout, ask your parents to start calling you what you want to be called, and other people will follow suit!

Sure it that is what you tell people that is what your name is. My daughter is named Amanda and for years people called her "Fred" because I used to say, "Ready Freddie" and one day she said, "I don't want to be Manda anymore I want to be Fred!" So we called her Fred for years. She is all grown now and is Manda, NEVER Mandi she hates that! People will usually respect what you want so go with it I think it is cute. Good Luck Scout!

Scout is a great nick, more of a boys name traditionally but it sounds great for you.

That's a huge name difference.... Sarah to "Scout". It's more of a tomboy nick.
