I drive a 1996 Honda Accord and when I make a right or left turn at relatively low speeds, I hear a clicking hoise for about three seconds. It is a front-wheel drive car, but the noise seems to be coming from the back of the car. I had the car inspected by Honda, and they replaced the CV boots (and I assume checked the CV joints as well). I'm not sure if that is the problem anyway, because if it was a problem with the CV joints or axles, wouldn't it be coming from the front of the car? Although it may just be in my mind, I don't think the noise is coming from the front. I also hear that if the CV joints were causing the problem, it would be worse when backing up and turning, and that is not the case either. The noise usually emerges when I accelerate out of a turn when the car is in first gear (automatic transmission).

I would say your likely cause is the CV axles, However there is a small possibility that the flex plate in the transmission may be cracked. I have never believed in just replacing the CV boots. 9 times out of 10 if the boost have ripped open, the grease in side the boots have been exposed long enough to cause damage to the joints. That’s why we replace all axles when the boots have been torn. the only good time to replace boots is when you start to see signs of cracking. If you replace them at this point the joints have not yet been exposed to the elements. other wise it’s just a waste of money to replace the boots if they have been torn. Your most likely going to need new axles. CV joint sounds can sound like they are coming from the car. you mentioned you only hear it when you turn, that’s when the axles have the most bind on them and in turn make the clacking sound you hear. time for axles, replace both at the same time if budget allows other wise do one, one month and the other the next month. Good luck.

If you have brake pads and calipers on the rear wheels, it could be the parking brake mechanism. If you have drum brakes on the rear, it could be a loose spring inside one of the brake drums. If your due for a rear brake job, I'd have it done and hope the problem goes away.

even though the dealership said that the c/v joints were good i would still suspect that is the noise you are hearing.
