I think they have been framed; the police are probably under instructions to do this by some political big-wig.

The truth is the McCanns' presence and ongoing publicity in Portugal (while of dubious benefit to Madeleine - who is in all probability dead) has been very NEGATIVE publicity for the resort and for Portugal in general (which relies on the tourist trade).

This was one sure way of getting rid of the McCanns - subjecting them to this nightmare (utterly bizarre and unbelievable - they would have had to be extraordinarily stupid, not to mention have very thick hides, in order to linger at the scene of the crime had they been remotely involved) was one way of making sure they left.

Had they been serious suspects they would never have been released.

I think (and this is a personal viewpoint) it was not a wise thing to do, hang around indefinitely and get on everyone's nerves - but I can totally understand why they did and might do the same in their position. It does not however justify the behaviour of the Portuguese police and whoever’s behind this.

Framing them in this ludicrous way is totally condemnable - the poor couple have been through enough without being subject to this silly accusation. 25 days AFTER the event - please! Anyone could have put the "evidence" there and anyone probably did.

I hope the British consul in Portugal will issue a strong criticism of the way this has been handled, and the indignities these 2 unfortunate people have been subjected to, simply because they failed to leave when everyone would have preferred them to depart.

What is ludicrous is how some people can barely string a coherent sentence together and get numerous thumbs up for it!

No I don't believe they are being framed. If they were, they would be locked up in a Portuguese jail awaiting trial. Instead they are free and at home in England.

I hardly think they have been framed, they are simply suspects. You can't be framed unless you are charged.
I don't know what evidence the PJ have against them and I would not be surprised if there is more than the dna evidence which the British Press is so eager to rubbish. The local bobbies in Praia de Luz may have been dumbos but I hardly think that CID officers from Lisbon are that daft. Proving a case of murder when no body has been found is notoriously difficult and I think that Britain does not come out well over this for its continual denigration of the PJ.
The McCanns have brought this upon themselves. They left the children alone when they could have had babysitters (every night), they have refused to answer all the questions put to them by the PJ, they stated that they would never leave Portugal without Madeleine and promptly scarpered when they were declared to be suspects. Whilst all accusations against them are regarded as 'ludicrous smears' they haven't stopped smearing the PJ since they arrived back in the UK. They may well be innocent but I wouldn't describe them as decent.

Ok... let's see if your 'beliefs' about this case are justified. - I also personally think the Portuguese Police were very clever in the way they dealt with a case, a case in which they are SURE the McCanns are involved:
(1) The McCanns remain OFFICIAL suspects in Portugal which is a country of the EU. That is heavy !! It is difficult to rebutt. Secondly and very cleverly I think,
(2) the Portuguese Police sent those 40 questions to the British Police putting the ball on the British Police's court.... all for the world to see.
So it is not the Portuguese Police who need to save face, my friend. The whole world is on the Portuguese Police's side, including the world media. Just look at the voting you got on your 'question'.

A conspiracy to frame the McCanns by kidnapping their daughter.

1) somebody persuaded the McCanns to go out every night leaving their children alone in the appartment just so they could take one of the kids and frame them.

2) somebody persuaded Gerry McCann to play tennis everyday leaving Kate to look after the children while on a 'family' holiday, just to make him look like a bad father, making it easier to frame him.

3) Somebody persuaded the McCanns to set up a million pound fund to search for their daughter then spend the money on 'living expenses' and desire spending it on legal fees just to frame them

I could go on... but if the McCanns have been framed this surely would be the most bizarre situation I have witnessed in my entire life, although I admit that its nearing that already

i don't believe they've been framed for a minute. if the police wanted early closure on this case, they would've nailed Murat's a*se.

1)Greece didn't worry about the bad publicity and people still go there
2)They could have just quietly advised the McCanns it was in their best interest to leave
3)Robert Murat was a serious suspect and was also released
4)Where did these people get the evidence from? The evidence (d.n.a)had to come from Maddy and she has not been found yet It is also stated that the dna had to come from a dead body not a live little girl.
5)How do explain the continuous changes of witness statements and McCanns stories.
Does none of this seem a bit suspicious to you?

If they are innocent, let them go back to portugal, answer the forty questions then stay there.

If they wanted to just make this go away they could have just as easily framed Robert Murat. They dug up his yard and could have easily planted evidence/dna in his yard, his vehicle or in his home.

I agree with you, i think the police have declared them suspects to make it look like they have made some developments on the case and to cover up for their own blunders, also there were reports that the local people said that because of Madeleines abduction the no. of tourists that came to Praia da Luz were lower than other years, ..

Well I think you are wrong there. When Kate was first made "arguida" she ( through a friend) said she would stay and clear her name. She left the next day.
I think the whole party that night have done nothing but hamper the case and I think the reason for fudging it was to throw the cops off the scent. well it worked. for a while. the police ARE going to find that body and I just hope it happens soon.
