I plant mine on Columbus day. Been doing it for years and it turns out great. Don't peel them. The first answer is good advice about depth and stuff. Easy to grow and a great reward. I usually grow 6-8 30 foot rows. I give it to all my friends so we all smell the same. I dehydrate quiet a bit to use for cooking. You should smell the house when I start the dehydrator. Now my wife makes me do it outside. I plant a hard neck variety puts up a stalk nearly six feet tall with a 3-4 inch purple flower. The bees love it. Enjoy the garlic.

Plant them outdoors between late Sept and early November. They do not do very well indoors as they need the cold to do well.

break apart a bulb but leave the outside layer on (not the papery stuff, though). plant with the roots down in a hole that is 2 times longer than the clove (if the clove is a half inch than the hole needs to be an inch deep).

Mulch after the ground freezes.
