I can't seem to find out WHY !! I only watch it in reruns because of my work schedule, but I'll miss Nurse Roberts.
Interestingly, THIS blog claims that she will return this season as her sister SHIRLEY Roberts ? :O

It's possible that she wanted to leave the cast to pursue other interests.
The fact that they wrote a strong supporting story line indicates that she left the program with good feelings between her and the producers. If the character was, simply "killed off" between episodes, or, just didn't appear anymore, it might have meant that she was fired.
I'ts good that such a "rich" supporting character was given a good, two episode "send off."

Since she was such a popular character, it's hard to imagine. However, I suspect the actress had other commitments or simply wished to move on.
