I'm living in Riverside, CA and thinking to start a home based bookkeeping service, do i need a business license? how much is it?

I sell from home and have a mobile sellers permit for WI, which is what's needed if a person sells something yet doesn't have a regular storefront to do it from.
Something like that may be needed for a service type industry in your state. Mine wasn't expensive, $15 and it renews free automatically every year.

Usually you do not need a business licence unless you are going to hang a "shingle' on your home to advertise.
Word of mouth is best from satisfied customers.
you may need added energy to keep up with the demand.
