i want to get a job as a server but i'm not sure which restuarant to apply too. i want to know where you get the most tips. i'm having a hard time deciding if i should go with a fancier restuarant like olive garden or instead something like applebees where the food is less expensive so people would tip more. anyone that is or has been a server or that knows a good restuarant to work at please let me know. Thank you

I made a very good living as a waffle house waitress but i worked there for 6 years...people fail to realize that building clientele can help

But i make alot more being a cocktail waitress...i don't know where you live but try a fancy hotel serving drinks or applying as a cocktail waitress at a casino

Just start looking at restaurants that have higher priced menus than even Olive Garden and Applebees because the price of the ticket is the greatest driver of tips. Don't be fooled by restaurants with cheaper prices. The people who go where there are cheaper prices do so because they can't afford to pay and tip more. If the nicer places don't have openings, then try Olive Garden, then Applebees, then keep moving down your list of places according to the average ticket. Don't know the average ticket? Call up a few and price their grilled chicken caesar salad. Almost every decent restaurant has one so it will be a fair apples to apples comparison.

People do Not tip more because the food is less expensive ,
They tip LESS.
Standard tip is 15% of the bill , cheaper food, lower tip .

It does sound like you are not experienced yet , so your choices may be limited .
People with experience are already hitting the higher priced places .

Apply at several and if you get several offers ,
Go for the one that is pricier but should also be busy .
High prices don't help if customers are staying away for some reason .

My friend works at Marriott as a server and usually gets at least $100 every day she works. If this is a good figure for you, also try your typical evening sports bar restaurants, like Texas Steakhouse, Fridays, The Office. You can also do well working for popular diners.

It really depends on your area and the service you provide. The restaurant itself has very little to do with it.

If you have a car, consider pizza delivery. Since you make a higher base wage than most servers AND get tips, it can be pretty lucrative.
