What is the easiest way to get the audio from a video changed into an mp3 or an audio file?

Thank-you for asking this question. IDK but I will star this question and be watching.
When I want the audio from anything on the computer I have a connection from the sound output on the tower to the input on my tapedeck.
The computer accepts stereos jacks and the tapedeck accepts RCA jacks. I got a cord from Radio Shack with both.
I have a Y-adapter going into the tower so I can run the computer speakers and the stereo at the same time
