Around here it is mostly for fun. There were some idiots that were putting junk in the candy. Our local hospital will xray the candy for free. The rule is now to only go to the people that you know. We have also had several people to get hit my cars. We now just have a party and leave off the going house to house. It is safer that way.

Halloween was started as a pagan holiday: The day before All Saints Day which is a Christian day--November 1.
We were taught that on all Hallows eve, that the spirits came out of their graves to dance and play pranks in the cemeteries. And since the good spirits were already in heaven, that left only the evil spirits behind.
Aside from that, I don't see the need to put down Halloween, it is for children and their fun. As long as the teenagers don't ruin it for them.

(1) The holiday violates the doctrines of all low-sugar and lo-carb diets;
(2) not everyone can look good in a cheap pres. bush costume;
(3) 4 our of 5 dentists show a profit in the moths following Halloween;
(4) The ancient Druids never meant for their sacred celebration to become so trite, crass, and commercialized; and
(5) It means that my administrative assistant will have those awful orange and black wrapped peanut butter chews on her desk until January.

the religious folk are the ones that hate the holiday, my fam. included, but hey they managed to accept me turnin emo-ish and black stuff and all that they have no probs with halloween now. besides i only celebrate so i can dress up and get candy from the neighbors I KNOW

My dad always likes to decorate the house, but he doesn't have the time. So don't obsess.

Some religious groups (and other nuts) don't like it because they claim that it leads kids into "dark alleys of life" (e.g. black magic, black masses, witches and all the rest of it. BOOOH!
