Fall is on its way, chilly, damp weather here in BC. Which means a flare up of aches and pains and joint problems for many of us. How are y'all coping?

Yesterday was one of those days for me. Woke up so stiff it was like rigamortis set in during the night. Just breathing caused that ache we FMS people know so well. Hobbling around like an old crone of about 110. Then the last living light bulb in my kitchen blew. Which meant trying to find some good samaritan willing to come over and change it. Luckily my landlord showed up ! So I didnt have to go out and buy new tubes for it either. However he objected to the thermostat being set at 74 to try and get the damp out of the house. :-( I was going to have a steaming hot bath just as he arrived so that was out. I was wearing my jacket, wrapped in a blanket and shivering and aching - so he decided to fire up the wood insert in the fireplace ! Several hours later as the temperature hit 83 in the LR I was finally able to ....

move my joints without stiffness and aching. I am thinking I need a sauna ! I have never cared for them, but never tried them since my accident either. I know a spa or hot tub works wonders, but never thought of a sauna. And I am Norwegian, shame on me.

You can buy those kits so cheaply and convert a small room in your home into a sauna. It seems to me that is something well worth looking into. Guess I'm not too old to learn new things.

The heat felt so GOOD I was almost giddy with the relief. Of course this morning I am back to being an old crone again, hobbling around moaning with every move.

I hope y'all have your coping methods in place and your posse's lined up to help you over this peak as winter sets in.

Clairovoyance I asked how other people are coping, and if they have plans in place for the flare ups people suffer during a weather change, it you dont like the questions asked here, go somewhere else. This site is for disabled people not trolls

I totally feel for you, having just had our winter (I am in Aussie) and now that its warming up again, the only season that does not cause major Fibromyalgia flare is early Autumn.

I have to keep rugged up and hibernate in late autumn, winter and early spring (thank god for thermals), and in summer I try to find somewhere to stay cool.

I usually have to have a shower to warm up the joints so I can move each morning, a bath is better but trying to get out is a nightmare.

Stay warm and hope that pain levels stay low

Moved from the North to the South and my condition is better.
Yes, the rain and the damp and cold have effects on us, but the worse is cold humid weather. That is a real killer for me when the cold air is not that cold, but moist and that's when I get stiff all over.

The pain can become unbearable.

I remember a time when I was fishing duirng the month of June. It's hot during these days, but this particular day the clouds moved in and the thunder started and the rain came down. I continued to fish in the rain and after two hours, I found myself getting tight all over where it almsot became impossible to move.

Thank goodness I had a change of clothes in my van and I stripped won naked and got into some warm clothes and turned the hearter on in my van.
I took a antiflammatory and within one hour I was back to normal.

This was the very first time I had experienced what arthritus does to your body when you get cold and wet.

This means we can buy a holiday home on the Island of Yorkshire. I blogged this subject some while ago. The annoying part is if the sea level was to rise 70 metres, while all parts of the UK would lose some territory to the sea, Wales seems almost unchanged!

LOL................
I love what you wrote. I know exactly how you feel, all-tho my story is a little different because i live in California. I live in the southern farming part and it rarely snows and it seldom freezes. But it does get cold. I too have arthritis. "its in my back and its terrible. I sleep with a heating pad and it helps me tremendously.

Just because we have disabilities does not mean we have a different reaction to weather.
