I have a 2005 sunfire, automatic. It says i should be getting around 25 mpg city and 35 highway.
I filled my tank up to full and have used 3/4 of the tank. (its a 14 gallon tank) Im only at 190 miles driven. That comes out to be roughly 18 mpg so far.
I dont floor the pedal.
I dont use AC.
I use defrost only in morning for 10 minutes.
I should be getting atleast 300 mpg shouldnt i?

you probably need to have it tuned up good ,id say its due a good set of spark plugs in it and also a few new filters, those are good cars but they do have to be tuned up once in a while, also have them scan the computer and see if there's any sensors going bad on it,this willl also make the mileage drop on it but id say by having it tuned back up you,ll notice a really big difference in the gas mileage on it,new plugs wil probably get the mileage back up,but id make sure they did all that was needed if i had it tuned ,good luck on it.

It would be nice to get 300mpg. Most cars mpg ratings are exaggerated. Take it for a voluntary emission test, and this will tell a mechanic what is happening.

"Actual mileage may vary".

That's what they say in the commercials.

When it gets to 1/4 tank.
Put 10 gallons in it.
Push your trip meter.(odometer)
Drive it until your reach 1/4 tank again.
Divide miles by 10.
That's MPG.

Try a tuneup.

Have a diagnostis done. Poor gas mileage usually will suggest a bad o2 sensor(oxygen).
