I am trying to get into a university with a difficult admissions standard. In high school I didn't really care and my grades show is. Most of my grades were C's and a few B's, but I was in honors classes. Now 2 years out, I have been going to community college and have completely changed. I have made A's in every college class I have taken, except history which I took when I was in high school and got a C. My current GPA is 3.85 out of 4. I have 2 honors credits as well. Is this a competitive academic record to get into a decent university? Or will my high school grades come back to haunt me?

Your high school grades will definitely go to any university. This may be to your advantage, since it will show how you've matured over the past two years and how capable you are. Still, forget about the top 10. There are many great universities in this country, but I fear the Ivy League isn't a choice for you.

Depends on what university. Some universities don't accept community college credits. Some will completely overlook that and want high school transcripts and ACT scores. I go to school at Troy University and work at Auburn University, and those are their standards. Go see an academic advisor..they will help you out!! Some offer a probationary period for the first year if you cc credits won't transfer. Hope this helps!!

if you are worried talk to the admisions counselor and ask what i can do to make my aplication look better? i am the opposite i got really good grades in highschool and in my first year of college i did not so hot. so when i wanted to transfer they told me to write an optional essay get as many letters of reconmendation and do more activities. they look at everything that shows you are trying to make an improvement. It was a lil annoying havin to do all those extra things but remember you have to show how you are now better than others. So call and see what they say

They will judge you on your most recent work. It's extremely difficult to transfer into the very top places, but you shouldn't have any problems getting into the best public university in your state (unless it's California, in which case Berkeley might not be guaranteed, but one of the UC schools would be).

I don't think your high school grades will really come back to haunt you. I don't know if you could get into an Ivy, but I'm sure you could get into one of the top 50 (even 30?) liberal arts colleges.
Good luck!!!

It depends.

Are your community college courses all in transferable subjects? Not everything you take in community is transferable to a four year college. Are they in hard subjects?

This would help.
