I don't think it would acceptable of the U.S. to back of from our countless promises.

Why should we just sit back and allow Communist China to take over the free island of Taiwan? I think this would also embolden Cmmunist China to become a super power even faster.

What do you think?

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Positively!
But in the meantime, China has been working diligently spending a LOT of the money we have provided through buying their TOXIC and DANGEROUS products to build the most POWERFUL Navy and military in the World.
They have developed missiles capable of sinking Aircraft Carriers.
They are preparing to TAKE Taiwan and will sink our Navy and our Aircraft Carriers without hesitation if we try to stop them.
WE need to make proper military preparations AND develop the political will to do OUR duty.

I am not American, but I wish to point out that the rest of the world has a very poor opinion of the U.S.A, One reason is because of its confusing and inconsistent foreign policy. It claims to be the promoter and defender of freedom and democracy, yet will not support long-time ally Taiwan, which has a democratically elected government. Taiwan is in effect already an independent country, with its own government, military and institutions, and over 80% of its people want formal independence. Yet the US opposes Taiwanese efforts to join the UN or the World Health Org, because China opposes it.
The U.S. has a treaty that obligates it to defend Taiwan if it is attacked. It would be nice to see the U.S. just once live up to its commitments and walk the walk instead of just talking the talk like it usually does.

Yes, the U.S. should stand by Taiwan. But, hey, they did not stand by Viet Nam, but let the reds run over it (due to ignorant Americans demanding we get out of Viet Nam); the U.S. has never stood by an ally nor kept a promise nor kept the treaty. Just ask any American native (Indian).
If you consider de facto, the U.S. has already abandoned Taiwan. Americans have no resolve to stand up for their convitions, their way of life or their freedoms, which is why Communism was allowed to rise to power in the first place.
People scream about 3,000 being killed in Iraq, but it doesn't bother them that 50,000 are killed each and every year on the highways, that hundreds of thousands (according to CBS news) die because of doctor errors/neglect. Until Americans are willing to "put up or shut up", "put their money where their mouth is", etc., Taewan and all the other decent places are doomed.
The U.S. has, for the most part, refused to support the Philippines which is why the terrorist cells are growing there.

I just read an article that China has the biggest standing army in the world, and it is no longer less sophisticated than ours, and in many ways far ahead! The average age of a US fighter jet is 27 years! And the average age of a bomber or tanker is nearly 50!!!
Our standard equipment is no longer able to penetrate their defenses at all! Their anti rocket missiles can easily shoot our nukes out of the sky. We have high tech fighters but not nearly enough of them to win a war with China.
As far as Taiwan, I'm afraid China may take advantage of our preoccupation with Iraq and dwindling resources to make its move on Taiwan. I don't think we will raise a finger.

As rare as it is I do agree with you on this one. We have made committments to Taiwan and we should keep them. We have China over a barrel right now. If they don't go along with our support of Taiwan we can move our business out of China and can boycott the Olympics. They really can't afford either.

Yes Absolutely. Where ever freedom loving people are, we should be right there next to them, shoulder to shoulder. We have been given the gift of might by God Almighty and with that gift comes a grave responsibility to do right.

EDIT: The Clinton administration screwed Taiwan. We need to correct that situation.

YES WE HAVE TO, BUT THAN AGAIN MAYBE ALL THAT CHINA NEEDS TO DO IS WAIT FOR THE democRATS TO BE IN POWER, AND THEY WILL TURN THEIR BACKS ON TAIWAN, AS CHINA SURROUNDS THE ISLAND WITH THEIR NAVY, THEN THEY LAND AN JUST WALK IN AND TAKE OVER.

We can hope, but, entering into war with China over Taiwan is ridiculous at best.

Yes we should stand fast in our commitment to defend Taiwan.
The mainland Chinese are not our friends. And unlikely to be for the forseeable future.

Yes yes, lets sink more resources into worrying about another little island. Would be cheaper just to buy them a new one.
