the block feature on YA? I mean in real life, one has the right to choose whom one deals with. If I am not comfortable with a person for whatever reason I just avoid them. I think it's my right. As long as I don't insult or provoke anybody, why is it cosidered by some here on YA to be such a crime to block other users? It's my right to choose who views and answers my questions, just as it is their right to prevent me from veiwing or answering their questions. What is your opinion concerning this please, and why?

I don't block people because of their different opinions either, but because they are rude, insulting or profane. Some I have blocked because they insult Egypt and Egyptians in particular. I admit I have been a childish idiot regarding one block which I will remove now.
Noha, don't take noor's answer the wrong way. Maybe he meant that he thinks too much time wasted on the net is not a good thing, but he definitely did not mean to insult you. If you have a problem with his answer the direct way is best; just ask him what he meant and let him know you are upset. I hope you work things out.

Hehehe no Sahar you were not offensive, I was the one being very childish and immature. I just took it in the wrong way and I confess I was an idiot! lol I'd like to apologize to you for that.

You mention "in real life" well, this is real life, and if when you ask a question to someone other than here on a public forum, then you would of course be careful as to who you directed that question, and probably expect an answer you desire. But, when you ask a question here, with so many different viewpoints and varied opinions, then it seems you take what you get. In other words, I , in my opinion, think it's childish and wrong to block someone just because their answer did not conform to what you expected.
If you are after a particular answer, pose your question with multiple choice answers, any one which suits your idea's, and don't give the public the chance to voice their true opinion.

I like the block option. It gives u the freedom to decide who u want to see and reply to ur msgs and who not. It's nice being able to control such thing. I do not use the option a lot though, but I block some people if they're answers are rude or seem annoying to me. I do not block people who have different opinion. I'm open to everyone's own opinions and it's really nice that everyone can talk freely and express their views abt a particular topic

As we say in Egypt " 27'telaf el ray2 la youfsed llwed kadia".
Here on YA as well as anywhere else in life, It is everybody's right to voice his or her opinion but taking into consideration not to disrespect each other when voicing our opinions and not to force our own convictions on others. We have to leave a space for their own will and freedom of choice.
Off course, it is your right whom u choose to deal with and YA offered this block feature for our convenience.
As for me i have a rather high tolerance rate and i do give people more than one chance to redeem themselves coz i believe that the internet brings out the worst in people. They r hiding behind a screen and they can just let go of some of their agitation from everyday life. ALL THIS TO A POINT OF DECENCY beyond that they should not cry if we retaliate and give them a taste of their own medicine.

I agree with you. There are just some people who I would wish to ignore and the block feature gives me that option. I don't think its such a bad idea. However, if you just start blocking people because you don't like the honest answers they give, then it does become a problem.

I think it was tacky. America is a land of free speech, and I fully support her rights to express her opinion. I respect that she did not lie. But she should realize that she has offended many people. Let's switch it up by fourty years; what if she had said she was against blacks and whites getting married? It is her opinion, and her religious beleif, and she is entitled to it, but would that have embraced the American dream of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all people? And while I wish Obama was more supportive, I think he has the strength of character to do what is right, no matter his personal opinion.

Once a person start using Y!A, he/she will be automatically committed to it's rules and regulations.
Blocking is one available tool in Y!A to protect yourself and you have the right to use it and keep yourself comfortable and away from any harassment.
Even the persons who are abusing the system are using that blocking facility.
The conclusion is that you have the full right to use the Blocking facility and you should not give attention to anyone who objects.

Dear Farah, As soon as i started to participate in the Egypt section, I blocked certain people because either they were giving really immature answers or trying to be insulting, its my time so i block as i see fit.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KINDLY PERMIT ME TO GRAB SOME SPACE ON YOUR QUESTION WITH A MESSAGE;
Now I find many of those that i have blocked trying to bully other regular users in the Egypt section by giving questions that are subliminally targeted at them, anyone that answers the question not knowing that it is targeted to bully another user then contributes to the bullying unknowingly.
Some people are more sensitive to these morons than others, so what i highly suggest is that think twice before anyone answers certain question from certain young male users of yahoo and ask which young female users that they are trying to bully!
People are on to you guys that bully others, watch out or you will be blocked; funny its Ramadan and some people can get so happy by other users being bullied, now that's what i call shallow!

As people say here in my country "Nobody is a golden coin to be loved by all".
There might be several and different opinions of people on one subject.
There are a lot of people who instead of helping others or give their opinion in a well-educated way, they only make fun of people or insult them.
So, I agree with you to block those who like to insult, make fun of others, provoke anybody and also those who act as racist.
