The movie gets an A- for being an exciting film, but a D- for historical content.

If you know the history, you know that the Spartans fought bravely, but there were about 7000 of them, made up of the Spartans and other free Greeks.

When he learned that the Persian were outflanking him (as he did leave a force up there, but they split), he sent the bulk of his force off to regroup while he would hold them off.

So you have the 300 Spartans plus 700 other free greeks. The King fell about 20 minutes before the end of the battle itself.

But Xerxes was devastated by the sheer ferocity of the greeks.

Three months later, the Persian navy was wiped out at Salamis and about a year later were massacred at Plaetea (it was just like Marathon 11 years earlier).

BUT, the Greeks and the Persian fought on and off for the next 150 years

your perception of the movie is completely off. The theme of the movie was having faith and standing strong with your brothers in arms. Holding on to your principles and beliefs and if need be, fighting for theme. Sacrificing your life so that your people can remain free and independent. The family crap and the whippings just added character leohnidas.

THAT'S what you got from that movie? I thought it was about winning the fight even if it means having to die to do it.
I wouldn't want to meet a guy who'd been raised like the Spartans raised their soldiers. That's totally sado-masochistic if you ask me.

I have been wanting to see it, but I live in a small town, the only movie store closed this summer and I am an hour away from any other towns, so it's good to know I won't waste a trip to rent it, it sounds good. Thanks Rena!
