I want to get into Acting but college is my top priority so I was wondering if a Major in either English or Physchology would be good for an Acting career. I read up on a lot of famous Actors and I notice a lot of them have degrees like English or Physchology. so which would be best?

You can major is acting or theater. I have a BA in Psychology and the only way you will make a lot of money is to go to grad school for a doctorate or PhD. English has it's flexibility when it comes to acting (and you won't need an advance degree for a decent job). It may make it easier to interpret scripts from a literary point of view, writing scripts. My cousin is an English major who wants to be a chef. How will this major help her? She can write her own cookbook without a ghost writer, she can edit for Food Network, etc. Worst case scenario, whether you choose acting/theater or English, you can potentially teach those subjects. Psychology is interesting but creatively there is nowhere to go.

This is an intersting question because I discussed it many times with one of my students this past year. I don't think it matters what you major in, neither is going to be any help. (You want to send me your list of famous actors who majored in English and pysch?) It might help me, because I believe that someone like you will never become an actor if your top priority is college. If you want to be an actor, your top priority has to be being an actor, and you shouldn't waste the four years if your life when you are most vital and attractive in college. You can always go to college, grandmothers do that. It is now when you should be preparing to become an actor. Read my profile and write me for more info at my aol address

Most actors usually had degrees in Theater, which is a great degree for getting you a job at K-Mart and Mickey Ds

A psych degree won't do you much good if you don't got he full 8 years.

And English degree might land you a job being a theater critics so you can get even after you never land a role.
