Papier mache? If you want your bone 3D, I'd start with something like a paper towel roll. Get 4 small balloons and blow them up just a little. Put two in each end and tape them in place. Fit the balloons into the end to see how big or small they need to be before actually knotting them off. Cover the whole thing with papier mache and let it dry. Paint as desired. If you need a bigger bone, find a way to make a bigger roll. You can use a wrapping paper tube or make your own tube from posterboard and tape it shut to whatever size you want.

If you want a really big bone, such as a dinosaur bone. make the base out of chicken wire and apply the mache' to this frame.
