My boyfriend quit his job back in August. He has had several interviews and one of the jobs gave him a call back until they got the results from the background check. My BF has a trespassing petty misdemeanor (dismissed) and a fireworks misdemeanor on his record from 2005. Can these types of misdemeanors be preventing him from getting a job???

Yes, but usually not in your BF case.

Drug possession is almost always a misdemeanor, but for most big companies and for most government positions, this type of misdemeanor will disqualify you.

Also, any kind of theft charge usually disqualifies you too. Weapons charges will disqualify you but many of those are felonies, which would disqualify you instantly.

OH YEAH...THIS IS A BIGGGGIE-----------

If they ask you on your application if you have ever had a violation other than traffic, and you say no, and then a misdemeanor comes back on your background check, that is almost always an automatic disqualifier, because they believe you tried to lie.

If he is trying to get into the FBI, CIA, or other "alphabet soup" agency, it could have an influence (or any of the better MOSs in the military) or even some positions in the Big Business, but otherwise it SHOULDN'T.
How he conducts himself in the interview (my biggest weakness in the process) is the big thing.
Tell him to take some "classes" on interviewing. These are often offered by community colleges, Veteran's organizations, some church groups, etc.

it is going to happen on a bkgnd examine. Be honest. you will get in worse problem for nondisclosure in case you get the job. Plus, you ought to settle the warrant particularly than run from the regulation. No time is a sturdy time to describe you acquire placed back interior the slam from a site visitors violation.

I dont think misdemeanor's usually matter. He might want to go ahead and pay to gte his background check himself to see what is on it.

They only ask about felonies. You don't have to mention a misdemeanor.
