Life long regret. Should have at least attempted a novel for adolescents. I read many, and apart from a few rare cases, they're not that good.

There are lots of reasons a child might want to be a writer. It also would depend what kind of a writer the child would want to be. If a child said "I want to write stories," it could mean the child makes connections between events, and that could determine the way the person sees reality today. If a child said "I want to write a poem" it could mean the child has strong feelings or has a sensitive ear (perhaps musically). If you're talking about the idea that a person would more likely become a writer if they said they wanted to be one when they were a child, it could, but not necessarily.

It could be that you have creative gifts and writing is what you do best. That may mean that you write stories or you just imagine writing stories or else you think best when you are writing in your journal.
Maybe it just feels good to record everything that happens or everything you are excited about like changes in thinking and new plans etc.
Being a writer can still happen when you get older if you haven't written since childhood. You've just got to want it enough to dedicte yourself to the craft just like any artist would.

I did want to be a writer, all through high school and college. I wrote all the time whenever I was feeling stressed, kept a journal, etc. I wrote letters to the editors of newspapers, wrote in stories for contests.
Now, I'm a child protection social worker. One of my responsiblities includes writing reports for the Court, to inform the court of the child's progress, etc.
My supervisors are impressed with my writing abilities and they give me special projects sometimes.

i kinda wanted to be a writer in middle school but maybe only for fun...idk writing stories is fun, you get to create a whole different world and people and dictate what they do and shock people with the outcome idk...i dont think children want to be writers when they're young, most children want to be teachers, doctors, astronauts...actors....idk unless if you're one deep kid
