wait till you buy your new one preferably before the current one runs out then go to your control panel and click on uninstall a program (make sure your not on the internet while your doing all this) uninstall the norton antivirus (symantec corporation) then when thats finished put in your installation disk from your new norton antivirus and follow the install wizard untill its finished once its done auto protect should start right away so you can go on the internet and update your virus definitions etc. via live update and you should be good to go and won't catch any virus's that way. thats how i did mine

It's a chance we all take. Close any and all open programs,
uninstall the Norton you don't want
Restart
install your new one
Restart, and quickly press and hold F8 until you come to a black and white menu.
Safe Mode is F3 (I think)
Run your new antivirus software in Safe Mode.
Windows will not be loaded and you should catch any self-executable viruses - if you have any.
When finished with the scan, exit to Windows.
Your desktop icons will probably be out of order.
Just drag them back into place.
