4. the child resides with me

the father and i are on good terms as far as the intentions of our son (which is only 6 months old right now) I'm just curious as to what the status of custody would actually be since there was never a hearing. I appreciate all answers and hope for a link maybe to a page that can further explain how these things work. I would like to educate myself on this incase something should happen in the future between us.

is there a way to obtain a document stating custody and would it be necessary for me to have one in the event that something happens between the father and I?

you have custody but he signed the birth certificate so he has rights.to enforce them he can go to court and have visitation ,support and custody established.that also means paternity test if he is not the actual father he has no responsibility to the child or any rights either and can take his name off the document.which he should if he is not the father living a lie is just wrong.if he is the father you cannot just run off with the kid you could be charged with kidnapping if he wants to be apart of this baby's life.but if he doesn't and many men don't you can go and live wherever you want he probably wont care.good luck.

i wish i new ohio law, so i'm going to suggest you go to google & type in ohio statutes & do a search for your exact issue. i can tell you in arizona unless there is a court order for custody, a mother has sole custody when the child is born out of wedlock. so, that's why it's important you see the exact wording of the laws in ohio.
