I've asked myself this question many times.

(By the way, is it oneself, or one's self?)

Based on dictionary findings either seems to be acceptable :-)

one·self
(wn-slf) also one's self (wn slf, wnz slf)

oneself definition
pron.

1. One's own self:
a. Used reflexively as the direct or indirect object of a verb or the object of a preposition: One can congratulate oneself on one's victories.

b. Used in an absolute construction: When in charge oneself, one may rearrange the committees as one pleases.

2. One's normal or healthy condition or state.

Now - I talk to meeself [lol] especially when aggravated or thinking something through...at home I have a convenient scapegoat...the cat! So I say I'm talking to HIM! lol

In the car, other drivers tend to stare me and it makes me shut up! :-)

I've seen folk of all ages imbide in this pasttime btw. :-)

There is nothing wrong with it. In the opinion of mental health professionals it only becomes a matter which might need treatment if you talk to yourself and lose the argument. LOL!

I find nothing wrong with it...unless I start arguing with myself...then I think I have a problem...especially if I lose the argument!!!!!
As for the One/one's/ones....you know, everytime I check with spell check, there is no listing of one's .... can an English pro out there fill me in...it would seem to me that the possessive of one would be one's...but spell check always catches me on this ..... one! I commit the cardinal crime of typos in almost everything I type...but I have no firm grip on this word and its possessive form...that bugs me. (God, am I easily bugged or what? ) Goldwing

Well see, I have these two
distinct personalities. There is the one who tells everyone
exactly what they want to hear. I always want to make everyone happy, so I
"encourage" them.
Then there's the real me.
My friends know this me.
This one takes no sh(cow dung) off anyone. This one
tells it like it is. So sometimes
Mrs. nice is talking to Miss
BSr and we get some great
conversations.

There's nothing wrong with it, I'm the only one, except for my pets, that totally 'gets' me. I talk to my pets a lot too and they often talk back. I have to get their help to answer 1/2 the questions I answer. They are very well informed little critters. lol

It is when you not only ask yourself the questions, but answer them too, especially when speaking out loud in a public place (particularly true near a psych ward)

I you are arguing with yourself, bear in mind that slapping yourself, may draw a bit of attention to you. Otherwise, at least you are talking to someone who UNDERSTANDS you, ROFLMAO

I talk to myself all the time because I'm the only one who listens!

I think it would be one's self. And no, nothing wrong - at least you get to talk to someone who is on the same wavelength as you !
