PLYWOOD WILL BE FINE for concrete forms.

MDF,, or what I rfer to as "GLIT" using the G L in place of two other letters is ...in my opinion...GARBAGE material.

Melamine...SO long ago used in making dinnerware; is essentially PLASTIC.

Certainly in 2007 you can buy Planking "NEVER ROT" is one trade name, that is an extruded Vinyl, created for exterior molding, etc.

Unless you have more dollars than sense, using RAW MDF will create a possibility of extreme dissatisfaction in that it will absorb any moisture; swell; warp; etc. Melamine as a laminate on anything... to me; also makes little sense in using. (no offense meant)

No,
mdf can be covered with melamine, a plastic sheet coating in this instance.

Mdf is heavy
Most reading I've done on CC's use plywood for forms.

I think "Make Magazine" had a demo this last year
go do a search

Mdf= medium density fiberboard not highly resistant to water. Melamine=a thin sheet material laminated to plywood or mdf basically plastic, still used on cheap shelving. Mdf not recommended for concrete forms use lumber and plywood.

no. mdf is medium density fibreboard, an engineered wood product. melamine is often used as a coating on particleboard in things like lower-end ikea type furniture. below is a link to a wikipedia article on their chemical make-up etc.

No they are not the same and you need to use melamine, it has to be completely smooth or your concrete will take on any little dent. Anything else, it will be very hard if not impossible to get your countertop out, I also would use a mold release spray, some people I know have used a type of cooking spray. Good luck!
