It's deceptive because it doesn't mean the opposite of "shallow". If someone is described as shallow, it is usually derogatory, and not meant as a compliment. It implies lack of strength of character and low commitment, and is often used to describe people who are superficially nice but don't mean it. But, "deep" when used about a person does not generally mean that someone is strong or has a well developed character. Rather, it tends to mean that someone is hard to fathom or get to the bottom of, hard to work out. You can be friends with a deep person for many years without feeling that you know the person well.

That you are not shallow!
Shallow means materialistic and only ever skimming the surface.
Depth means you DIG deep and look within yourself for more... meaning, a better understanding, empathy, you are a thinker. Willing to dive down, seek, search, find out, looking beyond the obvious. Wanting to find meaning, wanting to understand and make sense of things some people never even contemplate.... Wanting to know why? To understand...
Its a complement....

deep is a challenge between you and time - to be deep means you restrain reacting immediately - and take time to let stimuli work in your mind - to be deep means that you accept that all problems do not require an answer at ANY price -
Means that you select the informations what you collect along your life - to put them in contradiction - weigh pro and contra and dislike stereotypes instead of personal opinions about this or that - to be deep means independence and belief in intelligence -

You take your emotions very seriously and keep them close to your heart. Another is that you think about things a lot and take your own conclusive meanings from theses thoughts very seriously. Another is that something serious may have happened to you or something you witnessed that people would never of guessed happened to you, or they might know and conclude that you are constantly thinking about this incident and therefore your thoughts lie deep inside you.

It means you think a lot about each subject. You don't just fling off answers to questions, but consider them carefully.
