Go to your local library and look for the career books. The term to search in the catalog is "veterinary medicine -- vocational guidance" Some of the books will be aimed at children, but others are on a more adult level. These will tell you what background is needed for your career.

You can also ask the reference librarian for a copy of the Occupational Outlook Handbook. This is a one volume career guide published by the U.S. government. It will give you a few pages on each career, including education needed, working conditions, average salary and a list of professional organizations. If you don't find the answers you want in the article, write one or more of the organizations given and ask them for more details.
