I would always prefer the brutal truth. I don't even believe in the concept of a 'white lie' I believe that all lies are problematic.

A 'white lie' presupposes that we know everything about the given situation and that we can predict how the other person is going to react to it and those to me are both faulty premises.

Furthermore people usually find out the truth in the long run anyways and so a 'white lie' doesn't really solve anything it just delays the pain, which is often much worse when encountered later.

For me, I prefer honesty, which is always categorized as brutal truth. In my experience white lies only temporarily take care of a problem.

I think in our society no one likes to hear the truth, but then again we get upset when we don't hear it. Its a catch-22, we have to rely on our own experiences.

Recently, I had a lot of character assassination about my own abilities to supervise and how I interact with people. It sucked, but the brutal truth was humbling... If I hadn't heard the truth I would not have had an opportunity to learn and grow.

If I am not comfortable speaking the truth then I work around it without lying. It's difficult to do at times, and sometimes I relent and tell the truth anyway. The manner in which the truth is delivered is a factor because the truth doesn't have to be delivered in a brutal manner. For me the truth is best, even when it seems to be brutal...take care...I mean that truthfully...

There are tasteful white lies when it comes to etiquette(such as telling your host how delicious the not so great food is that they served you)

But I must say the majority of the time the brutal truth is necessary not to make the situation(whatever it may be) worse.

The brutal truth ( try learning the psychology way of doing it) Works out better that way for everyone involved.

If we simply got rid of all the absurd traditions, all the intolerance and everything else that forms a basis for embarrassment, there would no longer be any need to lie.

i think that the brutal truth is the best, but if you really don't want to hurt some ones feelings....telling an itsy bitsy white lie can't hurt

hello..
a lie is a lie, is a lie.....never mind the color.
You can speak the truth......always...wait for the right moment and say what you have to say with love and gentleness.
Thanks for asking.
