i have a old compaq presario s6500nx & a new acer aspire t180 the acer been giving me problems since i got it i was wondering can i swich the motherboard from the acer to the compaq

Yes you can, but all you'll be doing is to switch the Acer problems from one computer to the other. Basically, the mother board "is" the computer. You would also need to switch the hard drives, or at least install the drivers for the Acer board to the Compaq HDD. If the Acer is giving you problems, take it back to the seller and have them repair the thing.

As long as they fit in the case there should be no problem. Make sure that you properly position the standoffs for the motherboard when you move it.

it really depends if they have the same processors and specs like same ram video slot etc.

i dont suggest it though you'll only get more headaches
