Does anyone know if las vegas has any type of air pollution going on? I recently visited there and had a hard time breathing.

LV sits in a valley, so the smog gets trapped if there is no wind to move it. The worst air pollution occurs on weekday mornings during rush hour when auto emissions mix with dust. Usually clears up nicely around 1100 am. We rarely have low clouds and no pollution generating industries to create lasting air pollution problems.

California fire smoke from Big Bear was particularly bad the weekend of 9/15, when smoke hung over the mountains here through Monday morning.

I doubt there is alot of pollution there. It has to have industries like oil refineries and coal power plants and such to disperse alot of pollution out that you would notice. I think Hoover Dam supplies most of Las Vegas' power. A dam is pollution free energy.

Most likely you are having trouble breathing there because of the extremely low humidity. Las Vegas is very dry air. Thats why when it is really hot there, you dont sweat as much as you would if the temperature was the same but the humidity was 70 to 80%.

The dry air provides less moisture for your throat and lungs and most likely they become a little irritated. Try drinking alot of water next time you are there.

My parents live in Las Vegas and I've never had any problems with the air quality. In fact, the casinos are the best place for fresh air. Ironic, I know, but they have sooo many air flitrations running through the casinos (with fragrance) that it's quite comfortable.

Depending on how recent you visited, there was a fire in California and the wind blew the smoke into the valley. Our air quality is quite good, but if California has a fire, we will get the smoke.
